Laura McClure Journalist

Laura McClure is a national award-winning political reporter, a former Salon.com editor in News/Politics, and the current New Media editor of Mother Jones magazine.

Her writing on gay marriage, the Congo, North Korea, death row widows, medical marijuana, and other provocative issues has been quoted in The Week, The New Republic, The New York Times, and reprinted in Czech translation. While at Salon she started the popular World Press column. At Mother Jones she created and hosts one of iTunes top 100 political podcasts, in addition to writing and editing multi-platform investigative magazine features, training bloggers, and relaunching the ASME-nominated MotherJones.com Drupal website.

A two-time USC Annenberg health journalism fellow, Knight Digital Media Center fellow, and Carnegie Mellon University alumna geek, she previously spent two years in rural West Africa as a French-speaking HIV-prevention Peace Corps Volunteer. Today, she lives in San Francisco with her husband and son, and speaks nationally on new media and international investigative reporting issues from an editor's perspective. She is available for media consulting, freelance writing/editing, and speaking engagements on a per-case basis. Ask her sometime about condom demonstrations in Togo.
